Motor Shop

Motor Shop Job Expectations

As an electric motor winder/maintenance employee, your responsibilities involve taking steps to assemble, repair, and maintain electric motors. Your duties include:

  • Rewinding and producing coils
  • Replacing and preparing components, such as the stator core for winding or the wound motor for dipping
  • Testing the engine to ensure repairs were successful
  • Performing final inspections

You typically work on a variety of equipment, such as electric vehicle motors and generators, and you maintain and repair other electromechanical and electromagnetic equipment. You may even take part in the manufacturing of new electrical components and motors. An electric motor rewinder job falls under a broader category of electric motors, power tools, and related repairers. Electric motor workers are expected to be able to repair, maintain, or install electric motors, wiring, and switches.

Electrician’s Helper

Electrician’s Helper Expectations

An electrician’s helper is expected to follow instructions of the electrician on site and to assist by performing duties requiring less skills than a certified electrician. These duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Supplying or handling materials or tools for the on-site electrician.
  • Using hand tools as required or directed by the on-site electrician.
  • Being proficient in use and able to read measuring instruments.
  • Measuring, cutting, bending, and installing wire and conduit with minimal assistance once directives have been assigned by the on-site electrician.
  • Installation of lighting fixtures and other electrical equipment on non-energized circuits with minimal assistance once directives have been assigned by the on-site electrician.
  • Assisting in cleaning work areas and equipment during and after work is completed each day


AT NO TIME IS AN ELECTRICIAN’S HELPER ALLOWED TO WORK ON ANY ENERGIZED EQUIPMENT!

Electrician

Electrician’s Job Expectations

Electricians for Kingsport Armature & Electric are expected to be able to accomplish the following at a minimum:

  • Read and understand the requirements of drawing plans and specifications provided by engineers.
  • Know the National Electrical Code requirements in the NEC NFPA 70 that is currently enforced by each jurisdiction. They must be aware that different locations use different code years, with different requirements.
  • Be current on electrical state license if required by that state of tradesmen.
  • Safely install electrical items required to complete any particular project, and be knowledgeable of OSHA requirements, at a minimum.
  • Communicate with general contractor superintendent and other trades to complete the electrical work.
  • Be the lead person and be able to tell one or more helpers what to do and determine what they are capable of doing.
  • Order materials as required or be able to tell the office/project engineer what is required to continue the project.
  • Inform the office/project engineer if there is a problem with another employee with either a quality, safety, or personal issue that would affect the job they are on.
  • Have a minimum of five (5) years of electrical experience in the field and verified before being classified as an electrician, in addition to above.
